Spencer and Jane remained in frequent contact, and it was confirmed that Diana&#8217;s boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and the car&#8217;s driver, Henri Paul, had died on impact.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"am\">During what Spencer recalls as perhaps his fifth or sixth conversation with Jane, he heard Fellowes reacting to information on another line in the background. He described Prince Charles&#8217; manner differently. The future King sounded <strong class=\"Ql\">&#8220;giddily elated&#8221;<\/strong> during their conversation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"am\">Spencer went further in his memoir, writing that Charles sounded like a lottery winner to him at the time.
