Episode 1: The Reunion That Turned Into a Nightmare

Emily Carter had imagined this moment a thousand times.

For three long months, her husband, Daniel, had been working overseas. Every night, she put their six-month-old twin babies, Noah and Olivia, to sleep while listening to his voice messages. He always promised that the distance would be worth it.

“Just a little longer, sweetheart,” he had told her during their last video call. “When I come home, I’m going to make it up to you and the babies. I promise.”

Emily believed him.

That morning, she dressed the twins in matching white outfits, put on her favorite beige coat, and drove to the international airport. She wanted to surprise Daniel before he even reached the baggage claim.

Her heart raced as passengers poured through the arrival gates.

Then she saw him.

Daniel stood near a row of airport windows, wearing the navy suit she had bought him for his last birthday. But he wasn’t alone.

A woman in a red dress stood in front of him.

Emily recognized her immediately.

It was Vanessa—Daniel’s cousin, a woman who had attended their wedding, held their babies, and called Emily family.

Before Emily could understand what she was seeing, Daniel leaned forward and kissed Vanessa on the lips.

The world seemed to stop.

Emily tightened her arms around Olivia while gripping the stroller with her other hand. Her smile disappeared. Tears filled her eyes so quickly that she could barely see.

“No,” she whispered. “Please, God, tell me I’m seeing this wrong.”

But she wasn’t.

Daniel kissed Vanessa again.

Emily pushed the stroller forward, her hands trembling. When she was close enough, she finally found her voice.

“Daniel!”

He immediately pulled away.

Emily stared at him, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“What are you doing?” she cried. “I’m standing right here with your children!”

Daniel’s face went pale.

Vanessa stepped backward, avoiding Emily’s eyes.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then Daniel looked directly at his wife and asked a question that made her heart break even more.

“Who is she?”

Emily couldn’t believe what she had heard.

The man she had loved for seven years was looking at her as though she were a stranger.

And she suddenly realized that the worst part of this story might not be the kiss.

It might be what Daniel was willing to do to hide it.
