Five years earlier, Daniel had been a happy husband and a proud father.
His wife, Emma, was the center of his world. Their daughter Lily had just celebrated her first birthday.
They had everything a family could dream of.
But Margaret, Emma’s mother, had never approved of Daniel.
She believed he was not wealthy enough for her daughter and would eventually destroy the family’s reputation.
Daniel ignored her criticism.
He loved Emma, and he loved their little girl.
Then one rainy night, everything changed.
Daniel received an urgent phone call telling him that Emma had been involved in a terrible car accident.
He rushed to the hospital.
But when he arrived, Margaret was already there.
She told him Emma hadn’t survived.
Daniel collapsed.
Then Margaret delivered another devastating piece of news.
She claimed that Lily had also died in the accident.
Daniel couldn’t accept it.
He begged the doctors to let him see his daughter, but Margaret insisted there was nothing left to see.
Days later, Daniel was involved in another accident while driving home.
He survived, but suffered serious injuries. During his recovery, Margaret’s family took control of the situation.
She told everyone Daniel had abandoned his family and disappeared.
What Daniel never knew was that Lily had survived.
Emma had left behind a letter before she died.
In it, she had written that she wanted Lily to grow up knowing her father, no matter what happened.
Margaret had hidden the letter.
She raised Lily herself, telling the little girl that her father had died.
Back in the ballroom, Rose finally revealed the truth.
“Daniel, your daughter was alive the entire time. Margaret knew it.”
Daniel’s eyes filled with tears.
“Five years… You let me believe my baby was dead for five years?”
Margaret lowered her head.
“I thought I was doing what was best for her.”
Daniel shook his head.
“No. You stole five years from us.”
Lily stood quietly beside him, listening to every word.
She gently tugged on his jacket.
“Daddy?”
Daniel immediately knelt beside her.
“Yes, sweetheart?”
“Did Mommy know you were alive?”
Daniel froze.
He looked at Rose.
She slowly reached into her handbag and pulled out a small, sealed envelope.
It had Daniel’s name written on the front.
“Your wife left this for you,” Rose said.
Daniel took the envelope with trembling hands.
He opened it.
Inside was a letter that began:
“My dearest Daniel, if you’re reading this, please forgive me for not being there when you need me most…”
Daniel’s tears fell onto the paper.
But before he could finish reading, Rose whispered something that made him look up.
“There’s one more thing. Emma didn’t want Lily to grow up with Margaret.”
