The Sandwich Man’s Secret

Paul was a quiet coworker who brought the same plain sandwich to work every day, often becoming the target of light teasing.

After he left his job, a colleague found children’s drawings thanking him for handing out sandwiches.

Curious, the coworker visited the local library and discovered Paul giving lunch bags to children in need.

Paul revealed that the sandwich he packed for himself each morning was practice for the many he prepared for hungry kids.

Having grown up in foster care, he wanted to ensure others never experienced the hunger and loneliness he once faced.

When Paul collapsed from exhaustion, his coworker stepped in to continue the sandwich deliveries.

Soon, the effort grew into a workplace tradition called “Sandwich Fridays,” with employees making meals together for those in need.

After recovering, Paul founded the nonprofit One Meal Ahead, inspired by his foster father’s words: “You don’t need a full plan, kid. Just be one meal ahead of the worst day.”

His story showed that true heroism is often quiet, proving that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
