When I gave away a box of my daughter’s outgrown clothes, I thought I was simply making space and helping someone in need.
A young mother had explained she lost her job and was struggling to care for her daughter.
Although I wasn’t sure if her story was true, I decided to send the clothes without expecting anything in return.
The box contained dresses, sweaters, jackets, shoes, and a few toys. After mailing it, I forgot about it.
Almost a year later, I received a surprise package. Inside were photos, a handmade gift, and a letter from the same mother.
One photo showed her daughter wearing my daughter’s favorite yellow raincoat.
She wrote that the clothes helped her family through “one of the hardest years of their lives.”
Afterward, she found steady work, recovered financially, and said my kindness had “restored her faith in people.”
She included a small gift card and asked me not to repay her, but to help another family instead. The experience showed that even a simple act of generosity can change someone’s life.
