Gavin Rossdale, 60, shared photographs from his family’s summer on Thursday, September 3, 2026, featuring beach days with Zuma, 18, and Apollo, 12. Behind the gorgeous ocean views was a season that began with grief before offering the family some much-needed healing, along with a startling glimpse of just how quickly his youngest boy is changing.

The comments immediately zeroed in on how much Apollo Rossdale has grown over the years, and his resemblance to his father stood out. Yet, he has also been compared to another man in Gwen Stefani's life. | Source: Instagram/gavinrossdale

A Difficult Goodbye Came Before the Sunshine

Gavin introduced the summer carousel with a painful acknowledgment that the season had not begun as happily as the radiant photographs might suggest. “That was summer. We began with heavy hearts grieving our loved pk katsis,” he wrote.

Peter “PK” Katsis, the veteran music manager who represented Gavin and Bush, died on August 6, 2026. He was 69. A representative told The Hollywood Reporter that Peter died that morning at a Los Angeles hospital following complications from congestive heart failure.

Peter eventually helped steer the careers of major acts including Jane’s Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey, Backstreet Boys, and Audioslave.

His death clearly left a heartbreaking absence for Gavin, yet the singer’s photographs showed how quietly restorative it could be to step away with the people he loves. “But there was much healing , love and time with the fam,” Gavin continued. “Simple times in a beautiful ocean. 🖤.”

Those simple times looked absolutely glorious. One photograph showed Gavin wrapping Zuma in a close embrace as both smiled toward the camera. At 18, Zuma appeared relaxed and happy beside his father.

Apollo joined Gavin in the ocean for an adorable selfie. With the water behind them and enormous smiles on their faces, the pair looked completely delighted to be sharing the moment.

Another image captured the father and son taking a second selfie with the sunset behind them. One photograph placed Gavin beside his youngest in a matching neon swimsuit right by the ocean, showing just how big he has gotten already.

Gavin also devoted plenty of space to Kaya, the family’s seriously photogenic dog. The pup was pictured splashing in the pool, accompanying Gavin on hikes, riding in the car and settling in at home on the couch.

Kaya may have supplied an irresistible dose of four-legged charm, but it was Apollo who had people staring at the photographs and mentally calculating how so many years could possibly have passed.

Apollo’s Suddenly Grown-Up Appearance Left Fans Stunned

The comments beneath Gavin’s post quickly filled with affection for the family. One admirer focused on the bond visible throughout the carousel, writing, “They seem to love their Dad. Good on you!”

Others were struck by both boys’ appearances and the unmistakable Rossdale resemblance. One person declared, “Zuma has gotten so handsome! Apollo is a copy and paste of Dad ❤️.”

Apollo’s transformation inspired some of the most animated responses. “Oh man! Apollo is looking grown UP! Those Rossdale genes are coming thru strong!” one commenter exclaimed.

Another appeared completely bewildered by the speed of it all, asking, “When in the time warp did Apollo grow up so fast!??” For some viewers, his resemblance to Gavin was beyond debate. One wrote, “Apollo is your twin 😎.” Another simply observed, “Apollo got tall over the year.”

The disbelief continued as one admirer commented, “Sweetie family pictures. Wow Apollo has grown up [sic]!” A final message celebrated the influence of both parents: “Your babies are the perfect blend of you & Gwen🙏🙏💓💓I can not believe how much they have grown. Just beautiful & unbelievable🙏🙏💓💓.”

Gavin shares Zuma, Apollo and 20-year-old Kingston with his former wife, Gwen Stefani. He is also the father of 37-year-old Daisy Lowe, whom he shares with Pearl Lowe.

The summer photographs certainly strengthened the case for those famous Rossdale genes. Curiously, however, Apollo’s appearance has inspired a completely different comparison before, and Gavin is not the only father figure whom viewers believe they can see in the boy’s face.

Apollo Has Somehow Been Called Two Different Men’s Twin

When Gwen received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star, photographs of her family inspired an outpouring of comments about Apollo’s bond and apparent resemblance to his stepfather, Blake Shelton.

One person responded beneath an Entertainment Tonight post“Her boys are so good looking older boys are dressed so nice and her little boy is just Blake made over…what a wonderful family❤️❤️🙏🙏👍👍🌸🌸🌸 [sic].”

Another agreed without hesitation, writing, “He does look like Blake!!!” The emotional connection between them also stood out. As one admirer put it, “Apollo loves his Blakey.”

It is rather remarkable. Apollo can appear beside Gavin and have people call him his father’s twin, then stand with Blake and leave another group convinced that he looks just like his stepfather.

Even more amusingly, he is not the only Stefani-Rossdale son to receive the Blake comparison. Zuma has repeatedly inspired the same reaction, and his connection with his stepfather includes one especially thoughtful gift.

Blake Gave Zuma a Piece of His Own Family History

After Gwen and her sons moved to Oklahoma, Blake bought Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo child-sized vehicles that they could drive around the family’s property. As Zuma approached a milestone birthday, however, he wanted an old truck with a history that made it far more meaningful than anything new.

“At the ranch there was an old truck that was Blake’s dad’s. And his dad has passed, but it was sitting there, no dashboard, rusted apart…[Zuma’s] been begging for that truck for like, years,” Gwen explained during an interview on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

“He ended up getting the truck last year. Blake gave it to him, put a dashboard in,” she added. Blake’s father, Dick Shelton, died in 2012. By restoring and passing along his father’s truck, Blake gave Zuma something tied directly to his own childhood and family.

Zuma responded with an equally touching gesture. “[Zuma] called the truck Dorothy, which is Blake’s mom’s name,” Gwen revealed.

The gift says plenty about the closeness between them, but photographs of Zuma have also left viewers wondering whether years around Blake have somehow made the teenager resemble him.

After a photograph showed Zuma with his girlfriend following his August birthday, when she gave him a guitar, one person commented beneath the image“Wow, you do resemble Blake in this picture.”

Someone else acknowledged how delightfully confusing the resemblance seemed: “i see a mix of Gavin and Blake, which is obviously does not make sense. lol. Best of luck, Zumba and gf [sic]!!”

The Walk of Fame ceremony produced even more comparisons. Beneath Blake’s photograph, one person asked, “Why does the middle child look like he could be Blake’s Son.” Another exclaimed, “His son on the right is Blake’s ‘mini me’!”

One admirer wrote, “The 15 year old actual could pass for his son! I am very happy for your family! [sic].” A fourth added, “The one with glasses looks like he could be Blake’s.”

Gavin Is Proud of the Men His Sons Are Becoming

Behind all the playful resemblance debates is a family navigating life across two homes. During a March 30, 2026, interview with Fox News, Gavin described co-parenting with Gwen as two separate lanes that continue in the same direction without meeting.

“It’s a very, it is an interesting kind of… it’s a two-lane highway, you know, but they don’t ever seem to merge, which is fine,” he said.

“Probably doing the best she can, and I’m doing the best I can. And the kids are growing up, so I’m a proud proponent of the system. It’s fine,” Gavin continued.

His greatest goal as a father is wonderfully straightforward: he does not want to raise “jerks.” For Gavin, kindness and consideration will matter enormously as his children find their way through adulthood.

“Making them likable. I think that if you’ve got kids that are unlikable, they’ve got a tough life ahead, you know. Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic,” he explained.

Gavin said he tries to teach those values through his own behavior and the stability of the people surrounding his children. He is also deeply conscious of the pressure young adults face when choosing college, taking on student loans and trying to enter the workforce.

The singer feels fortunate that he discovered his own path as Bush’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Ahead of the band’s April 25 performance at the 2026 Stagecoach festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, Gavin said his approach was to arrive with enthusiasm and “good energy.”

That same warmth poured through his summer photographs. Apollo may suddenly look startlingly grown, but the most beautiful detail was how safe, happy, and completely adored both sons appeared beside their dad.
