Episode 4: The Little Girl Who Called Her Mom

The Sterling mansion had changed since Elena arrived.

The children laughed more often. Dinner no longer ended in arguments, and Daisy had begun joining the family at the table.

Even William found himself returning home earlier.

One morning, Daisy woke from a nightmare and ran downstairs in tears.

Elena was preparing breakfast when the little girl wrapped her arms around her waist.

“Please don’t leave me,” Daisy whispered.

Elena knelt and held her close.

“I’m right here, sweetheart.”

Daisy looked up at her with trembling lips.

“Can I call you Mom?”

Elena froze.

The word touched the deepest wound in her heart. She had once dreamed of hearing it from her own child, but life had taken that dream away.

She gently brushed Daisy’s hair from her face.

“You can call me whatever makes you feel loved.”

Daisy smiled through her tears.

“Then you’re Mom.”

From the doorway, William watched in silence. His eyes grew wet as he realized his daughter was allowing someone into the space her late mother had left behind.

But not everyone celebrated the change.

Margaret summoned Elena to her private sitting room.

“You are becoming too attached to these children,” she warned.

“They need someone who cares about them.”

“They need their family. You are an employee.”

Elena lowered her eyes, hiding the hurt.

Margaret continued, “William is lonely. Don’t mistake his kindness for love.”

Before Elena could respond, Margaret placed an envelope on the table.

Inside was a check large enough to change Elena’s life.

“Take it and leave quietly.”

Elena stared at the check, then pushed it back.

“I came here to help your grandchildren. I didn’t come for your money.”

Margaret’s expression turned icy.

“Then you have no idea what this family is capable of.”

That afternoon, William announced that the entire family would spend the weekend at the Sterling yacht club.

Elena hoped the outing would bring everyone closer.

She had no idea that the trip would expose the family’s deepest cruelty.

To be continued…
