Episode 4: The Photograph That Revealed Everything

Episode 4: The Photograph That Revealed Everything

Elena held Sophie’s hand tightly.

“Sir, I think we should leave.”

But Richard gently stopped her with a question.

“Please. Just tell me something. Who is the little girl in that photograph?”

Elena looked at him for several seconds.

“That’s Sophie when she was younger.”

Richard looked confused.

“But why does that picture look so familiar?”

Elena took a deep breath.

“Because my mother used to work for your family.”

Richard froze.

“What?”

“My mother was a housekeeper at your family’s old home. She used to take care of your younger sister, Emily.”

Richard’s expression changed.

Emily had passed away many years earlier. He rarely spoke about her because losing her had left a painful memory in his heart.

Elena continued.

“My mother taught me the lullaby she used to sing to Emily. I sing it to Sophie every night.”

Richard looked at Sophie.

“Is that the song you were singing earlier?”

Sophie nodded.

“Mama sings it when I can’t sleep.”

Richard’s eyes became emotional.

He remembered that melody.

It was the same song his mother used to sing to Emily when they were children.

But there was something else.

Richard slowly looked at the teddy bear in Sophie’s arms.

“Where did you get that teddy bear?”

Elena looked down.

“It belonged to my mother. She gave it to Sophie before she passed away.”

Richard stepped closer.

He noticed a tiny embroidered letter on the teddy bear’s paw.

The letter was an old family symbol.

He had seen it before.

It belonged to something his younger sister had owned.

Richard’s voice became quiet.

“Elena… I think there’s something you don’t know about that teddy bear.”

End of Episode 4.
