Elena stared at the document in Adrian’s hands.
It was an old medical report from the clinic she had visited during her marriage.
Adrian claimed it proved Elena had deliberately hidden information from him.
“You told me there was no hope,” he said. “Now I discover you never told me everything.”
Elena shook her head.
“That isn’t true. You were there when the doctor explained the results.”
William took the document and examined it.
Something was wrong.
The report contained a date that didn’t match Elena’s medical appointments. A signature appeared to have been copied, and several pages were missing.
“Where did you get this?” William asked.
Adrian hesitated.
“That’s irrelevant.”
“Then you won’t mind if we have it verified.”
For the first time, Adrian looked nervous.
Margaret stood nearby, her expression unreadable. She recognized the name of the private clinic printed at the bottom of the page.
Years earlier, she had privately contacted Adrian after learning he wanted children. She had offered financial assistance if he ended the marriage and stopped pursuing Elena.
She had believed she was protecting her family’s reputation.
Now her old decision threatened to destroy the one thing she had wanted to protect.
Later that night, Margaret secretly called the clinic.
But the records department had already received a formal request for verification.
Meanwhile, Elena sat alone in the garden, overwhelmed by the sudden return of her past.
William found her there.
“You don’t have to face this alone,” he said.
She looked at him.
“What if I can never have a child of my own?”
William took her hands.
“Then we will build our family another way. Love is not a medical result.”
Elena leaned against him, allowing herself to believe in a future she had stopped imagining.
Then William’s phone rang.
The clinic had completed its preliminary review.
The person on the other end delivered a shocking message.
The medical report Adrian had brought to the mansion was not authentic.
And the clinic had evidence of who altered it.
To be continued…
